During the summer term 2009 the headteacher and a TLR leader held extensive pupil interviews across the school. The children were encouraged to talk about their learning. Each class thought about all the things that they enjoyed at school and why they thought they were good learning experiences. They were also asked if there were any things that they would like to see as part of their learning that currently did not happen.

Each learning statement, e.g. having fun, being creative, was written out on cards and the children then sorted them into categories Once the cards were in categories the children had to come up with sentences that reflected each group of statements The result is our own children’s charter

This charter is now on display in the school. From September 2009 the children will be involved in monitoring against their own charter to find real evidence of it in action. They will feed their findings and recommendations back to the Senior Leadership Team.
